One of my favorite assignments this year was for CBS Watch! Magazine with Shemar Moore. Transported to the beautiful island of Maui, we spent the day shooting around the Wailea Beach Resort and ended the day at Dragon’s Teeth. At the Wailea Resort, we shot 7 different setups all over the expansive resort, and 3 shots at Dragon’s Teeth.
The original concept was to shoot a fashion lifestyle story at the Wailea Resort, but I was excited to explore the beauty of the island and suggested to Creative Director Ed Mann and his creative team Beverly Byrd and Christopher Ross that we venture away from the resort. Unfortunately, the top of the volcano was out of the question, but Google led me to Makaluapuna Point (Dragon’s Teeth), a beautiful site where lava from the volcano flowed into the ocean and created a rock formation that resembles dragon’s teeth. Given the time constraints and number of shots we were trying to accomplish, the 45-minute drive to Dragon’s Teeth was our best option to capture the essence of the island.
I arrived in Maui a week before the shoot with my family to feel the energy of the island and see how the light moved around the resort. Getting 5 days to prepare and location scout before the shoot was a blessing. Below is the creative PDF submitted to client and behind the scenes shots.
